Grofers is an Indian online grocery delivery service. It was established in December 2013 and is located outside Gurugram. During 2018, the company has raised approximately $ 535.5 million from investors including SoftBank, Tiger Global and Sequoia Capital.
Albinder is the CEO and co-founder of Dhindsa Grofers, an online delivery facility for everyday needs such as grocery, bakery items, flowers, fruits and vegetables. Apart from these, Grofers also provides delivery services for baby care products.The company makes local shopping easy and quick. It offers a wide range of products including grocery, bakery, flowers, fruits and vegetables, electronics, and pet care services.
The name Grofers is an image of “grocerie grofer”. The company’s customers use a mobile application to order online. Grofers employees then secure the goods from their warehouse and distribute them to the consumer. Delivery can be scheduled for any time of day.
During the coronovirus epidemic in 2020, Amazon India and Big Basket had some online grocery platforms that continued to operate in India.
Albinder Dhindsa is an IITian by education, he has a Masters in Business Administration from the Columbia University–Columbia Business School.
IDEA OF JOURNEY GOROFER
Albinder started her career as a Transportation Analyst at URS Corporation in 2005, soon completing her graduation from IIT-D. After working for two years, he joined Cambridge Systematics as a senior associate and worked for the same organization for three years. In 2010, Dhindsa decided to quit work and did an MBA in the United States. While living in the United States, he joined UBS Investment Bank in 2011 for a period of 3 months.
After his MBA, Albinder Dhindsa decided to return to India and join zomato as its new head of international operations. His stint with zomato played a key role in his desire to become an entrepreneur, gaining critical knowledge and awareness about the Indian startup industry and the ecosystem around it. He decided to create a new startup – GROFERS ,Going back in time, it all started when Dhindsa was in the United States. While Dhindsa was doing his MBA, he met Saurabh Kumar, who was working with Cambridge Systematics. Saurabh is a graduate from IIT Bombay and holds an MS degree from the University of Texas. He has worked as a Senior Analyst in Mumbai and Chief Operating Officer with Opera Solutions of Rasleela Technologies. Both Dhindsa and Saurabh saw a major flaw in the logistics segment and saw a huge opportunity. Both noticed that most of the transactions between consumers and traders in the hyperlocal space were unorganized. After identifying the problem and considering a solution, he talked to some merchants and learned about local pharmacies, which could make 50-60 home deliveries per day in a radius of three to four kilometers.
Even though the merchants had a solid customer base, they struggled in terms of quality and reliable service to their customers. With this in mind, the duo began building a platform that could eliminate this defect. After much research and idealization, Albinder and Saurabh launched One-Number in 2013. Although many restaurants oversee their enterprise, it was observed that the majority of delivery requests were coming from groceries and pharmacies. The team then decided to focus on two styles, groceries and pharmacies. A number were reintroduced to the Loafers Company as Grofers.

The company operates on the B2C (Business 2 Customer) model, which previously followed the B2B (Business 2 Business) model. The best part of the establishment of Grofers was the endless possibilities of using a hyper-local distribution network. Like many other successful ventures, producers had the problem of creating awareness to attract consumers. Quality service producers made it a popular name and a trusted brand. With around 500 deliveries per day, Growers.com gradually established itself as a formidable competitor. After a few months, Grofers expanded by adding 7 stations and was completing 3000 orders daily. Grofers did not run a single marketing campaign for the promotion.
The producers are valued at over $ 535 million. The average ticket size is INR 560 and with over 400 merchants, manufacturers are able to fulfill 6000 orders per day. The growth being achieved is significant because the whole number is tripling every month. The company has received approximately US $ 45 million from Sequoia Capital and Tiger Global Management.
