ABOUT FOUNDER RICHA KAR
Richa Kar was born in Jamshedpur and comes from a traditional family.Richa Kar completed her graduation in 2002 from Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani (Bits Pilani). In 2007, he completed his post-graduation from SVKM’s Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS). After completing her studies, Richa worked in the IT field for a few years. Post that, she earned a master’s degree in 2007 from the famous Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NSIMS). She worked for Spencer and SAP Retail Consulting after graduating from NMIMS. Richa’s collaboration with Spencer and SAP allowed her to gain valuable retail experiences that helped her in her retail journey. One of his clients at SAP was Victoria’s Secret. The experience of interacting and working with that client made Richa realize the harsh reality of lingerie shopping in India. Richa considered the idea of an online retail store for the same.
RICHA KAR WORKING LIFE
After complete graduation , Richa had a secure job and career. She was an engineering graduate from BITS Pilani and did a corporate job in Bangalore. He later completed his MBA and started working as a retail consultant with Spencer Retail and SAP where he learned a lot about the retail sector.
ZIVAME STARTUP IDEA BEHIND STORY
The idea of Zivame came to his mind while working in SAP; She oversaw the online sales of Victoria’s Secret, America’s largest female retailer. She noticed that the sales figures were higher than the target, but there was no such market for Indian women. After working in retail for 8 years, Richa Kar gained a sound knowledge of the field and decided to start something on her own.

Richa Kar’s venture was inspired by a prevalent issue – women had to face embarrassment and unwanted attention to something in the form of buying lingerie from shops and stores. Commentary from the opposite sex and harassment for leaving women who are apprehensive about shopping for the opposite sex and other wear. Richa’s Zivame was conceived to fix the issue. Through her bold initiative, she was keen to make the shopping experience for intimate clothing easy and succeeded at it. Zivame has now become a household name with girls and women – not only for the range of clothing’s temperament, but also for its quality and durability.
FACING CHALLENGES JOURNEY WITH ZIVAME
When Richa Kar discussed the idea of selling women’s lingerie online with her mother, her mother’s response was not helpful. Her mother was worried about how she would tell her friends that her daughter was selling bra-panties online. Furthermore, he did not receive any support from his father as he did not receive his business concept.
To get more information about the lingerie business, she visited several malls and shops and noticed that women feel ashamed to buy lingerie offline as most of the shopkeepers in such shops are men. Also, women cannot expect fitting and styling tips from such shops. Keeping all these points in mind, Richa came up with the name “Zeva” for her idea which means Radiance in Hebrew. But since that name was not available, she settled with Zivme, which means Radiant Me. She bought 2011 and Rs. I amassed all my savings. Launched the brand from. 35 lakhs which he had borrowed from his friends.
Critics from People Initial days of her startup life was very bad as people were making fun of her venture. She couldn’t even find a house on rent as when her landlord asked what she was doing she had to tell them she sold clothes online.
ZIVAME RAISE FUNDING AND GROWTH
Richa Kar borrowed INR 30 lakhs from friends and family to complete her endeavor. She started on 25 August 2011 in a small office location and received her first order 5 hours later. As the business grew, the company sought funding and raised $ 9 million in two rounds from investors such as IDG Ventures, Kalaari Capital, and Unilazer Ventures. Within three years of launch, Zivame developed into a 200-member strong team.
Zivame is an online lounger store covering hundreds of styles for the Indian population. It is a leader in this niche online shopping segment, offering over 5,000 styles, 50 brands and 100 sizes. In addition, Zivame offers a wide range of products for women in various categories, including, but not limited to lingerie and active clothing. Zivame received such a tremendous reception that it now has brick-and-mortar stores across the country. Zivame products come at affordable rates without any compromise in quality.
At one time Zivame had 5 million visitors online every month, of which around 1 million were unique visitors. Since then the number has increased manifold. GIMP shipments have reached all Indian states except Lakshadweep. With e-commerce becoming mainstream, XiaowMe was quick to extract maximum from this domain from its early adopters. As time passed, Richa Kar understood that jumping on the e-commerce bandwagon was only the first step to success and became more and more important in the lingerie category.
