WIPRO LIMITED is an Indian multinational corporation that provides information technology, consulting and business process services. It is located in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.  In 2013, Wipro demolished its non-IT businesses and formed privately owned Wipro Enterprises.

Wipro Limited is a provider of IT services, including systems integration, consulting, information systems outsourcing, IT-enabled services and R&D services.

Wipro entered the technology business in 1981 and has more than 160,000 employees and customers in 110 countries. IT revenues were $ 7.1 billion for the year ended March 31, 2015, with a double business ratio of greater than 95%.


Azim Hashim Premji is an Indian businessman known for establishing Wipro Limited. He served as the chairman of Wipro and his son currently holds the position. However, he retained his position as a non-executive board member and founding chairman. In addition, he is an investor, engineer and philanthropist. He is popularly known as Czar, India’s IT industry. He was named among the 20 most powerful people in the world by Asiaweek in 2010. He was twice named in the list of 100 Most Influential People by Time magazine in 2004 and 2011. Over the years, he has been repeatedly listed as one. 500 ka .. Azim was born in a Gujarati Muslim family in Bombay. His father, Muhammad Hashim Premji, was known as the rice king of Burma. Pakistan’s founder Muhammad Ali Jinnah invited Azim’s father to come to Pakistan, but opted to stay in India.

He is married to Yasmin and the couple have two children, Rishad and Tariq. Rishad Premji is currently serving as the chairman of Wipro.

Azim received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University. At the age of 21, he returned to India as his father died in 1966.


Azim premji After returning to India  home from Stanford University , he took over the Wipro established by his father in Amalner, Maharashtra in December 1945. The company was initially named “Western India Palm Refined Oil Ltd.” And later abbreviated as “Wipro”.

The company initially manufactured vegetable and refined oils under the names of farmers, sunflowers and chemicals. After Azim took over the responsibility of Wipro, the company started focusing in the IT and computing sector within two to three years.

In 1977, the company was first known as Wipro Products Limited and then in 1982 as Wipro Limited. The company continued to launch the resin prominently, named Basil-based Family Soap and toilet Wipro Jasmine. In this way the company expanded with respect to the coming years.


Azim serves as the founding chairman of Wipro Limited. Currently, his son Rishad serves as the chairman of Wipro, which he succeeded in July 2019. Prior to this, Azim spent four decades diversifying and developing as president of Wipro.

He went from making Wipro a gentle soap product to making it a high technology company. He eventually evolved into one of the global leaders in the software industry. Wipro is headquartered in Bangalore, Karnataka, India.Under Azim’s guidance, Wipro entered into the high-technology sector of manufacturing minicomputers in association with Sentin Computer Corporation, an American company. In this way he brought a wide shift in the company by shifting its focus from soap to software.


He founded the Azim Premji Foundation, a non-profit organization at 2001.In December 2010, he pledged to donate US $ 2 billion to improve schooling in India. It has transferred 213 million equity shares of Wipro Limited to Azim Premji Trust by certain entities controlled by them. This donation is the largest donation of its kind in India. In March 2019, Premji promised 34% additional shares of Wipro held by him in the foundation. At the current value of approximately US $ billion billion, this allocation will bring the total settlement to US $ 21 billion from its foundation.

In 2013, Azim signed The Giving Pledge, which tries to donate at least half of its funds. He started his non-profit organization, Azim Premji Foundation with the aim of spreading education in India. He started his organization with a donation of $ 2.2 billion. He topped the Adliv Hurun India philanthropy list for the year 2020.
