The Adani Group is an Indian multinational conglomerate with revenues of approximately $ 12 billion from FY 2015 to 2016. The company is headquartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. Adani is a major global integrated infrastructure player with diversified businesses such as coal trading, coal mining, ports, power generation, multi-model logistics, renewables, gas distribution and transmission. Adani has always been known for his growth and vision towards nation building.
It is the largest port developer and operator in India and Mundra is the largest commercial port in the country. The Adani Group is one of the largest business units after several ports, branches, manufacturing units and corporate offices at various locations. All of this business group has over 900 third-party contractors with more than 15,000 employees and over 50,000 employees, covering various work orders in more than 25 business units.
In April 2014, it added a fourth unit of 660 MW to its Tiroda thermal power station, making Adani Power India the largest power producer. In 2015, Adani was rated India’s most trusted infrastructure brand by the Brand Trust Report 2015. The group operates mines in India, Australia, Indonesia and supplies coal to Bangladesh, China and other countries in Southeast Asia. In January 2018, Adani Ports and SEZ Limited added equipment and machinery to become the largest dredger fleet in India.
ABOUT FOUNDER GAUTAM ADANI GROUP
Gautam Adani is an Indian industrialist and philanthropist who founded the Adani Group, a multinational company focused in port development and operations in India. He is the chairman of the Adani Group. As a philanthropist, he runs the Adani Foundation along with his wife Preeti Adani. He is the chairman of his philanthropic organization and is prominently led by his wife. Forbes estimated the family’s net worth as $ 25.2 billion by October 2020. India Today ranked him as the third most powerful person in India. As of 2019, he was the second richest person in India.
GAUTAM ADANI- PERSONAL LIFE & EDUCATION
Gautham was born into a Jain family in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. His father Shantilal was a textile businessman. He lived in the northern part of Gujarat with his seven siblings, mother and father.He is married to Preeti Adani and has a son Karan Adani, who is the CEO of Adani Ports and SEZ Limited. In 1998, Gautam was once made a bulb and left without depositing money. He survived the 2008 Taj Hotel Mumbai attacks and escaped by hiding in the kitchen and toilet.
Gautam took a lot of interest not in his father’s textile business but in business. He started working at a very young age. He was a diamond importer in Mahendra Brothers in 1978. After working there for 2-3 years, he set up his own diamond brokerage firm in Jhaveri Bazaar, Mumbai.
His elder brother, Mansukhbhai Adani, invited him to manage operations at his plastic unit in Ahmedabad. This business propelled Gautam to global trade through polyvinyl chloride (PVC) imports. He started importing primary polymers for small scale industries in 1985.
GAUTAM ADANI- ADANI GROUP
Gautam founded the Adani Group in 1988 and served as its chairman. The company is based in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, India. It is a commodity trading business with the head of Adani Exports Limited. The group’s diversified businesses include energy, resources, logistics, real estate, financial services, agribusiness, defense and aerospace.
It holds a 66% stake in Adani Ports and SEZ Limited, a 73% stake in Adani Power, a 75% stake in Adani Enterprises and a 75% stake in Adani Transmission Limited. The group has annual revenues of approximately $ 13 billion, operating in 50 countries in 70 locations.
DEMOLITION OF ADANI GROUP
1)Adani Enterprise Limited: Gautam founded Adani Exports Limited in 1988, now called Adani Enterprises Limited – the holding company of the Adani Group. The company was originally scattered in agriculture and electrical goods.He started expanding his business in 1991 with trading of metals, textiles and agricultural products. Changes in trade resulted in economic liberalization policies and proved profitable for the company.
2)Gautam Adani- Adani Ports : In 1995, Gautam established the first jetty, Mundra Port and Special Economic Zone. The company eventually handed over its operations to Adani Ports and SEZ Limited (APSEZ). The company is currently recognized as the largest private multi-port operator. This port can hold 210 million tonnes of cargo per year and thus it is the largest private sector port in India.
3)Gautam Adani- Adani Power Limited : In 1996, Gautam established another portal of Adani Group, Adani Power Limited. Adani Power is the country’s largest private thermal plant manufacturer with a capacity of 4620 mega watts. Between 2009 and 2012, he acquired Abbott Point Port in Australia and Carmichael Coal in Queensland.
4)Gautam Adani- Adani Green Energy : In May 2020, Gautam made the largest solar bid of Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) for $ 6 billion. The 800 mega watt photovoltaic power plant project was handled by Adani Green Energy. It is an Indian renewable energy company, which operates the Kamuti Solar Power Project, one of the largest solar photovoltaic plants.
5)Gautam Adani- Philanthropist: Gautam founded the Adani Foundation in 1996 and served as its president. The organization is funded through the Adani Group and operates in Maharashtra, Himachal Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Odisha.
He paid Rs. Rs 100 crore assistance to the Prime Minister through the Adani Group’s portal to fight the coronovirus crisis. He donated Rs 5 crore more to the Gujarat Chief Minister Relief Fund. 1 crore in Maharashtra CM Relief Fund.
